           Summer Camp 2010!

Each summer the Red Buffalo Ranch offers a summer camp for children ages 8-14, and ranging from beginner to advanced riders.  We have five two-week sessions, during which campers will be assigned their own horse to care for.  We offer a Full-Day schedule from 8:30 to 4:30.  During the day, campers will learn how to care for and ride their assigned horse.  All students ride two times per day on trail rides or during lessons.  When not on the horses, campers will learn the parts of the horse, saddle, and other key components to becoming a horseman (or horsewoman).  Campers will also have the option of attending two trips while at camp.  One trip is to the New Holland horse auction in Lancaster, PA (parent chaperones attend), and a horseback overnight trip where you ride at night with glowsticks.  Feel free to call us anytime for more details!

          New Holland Trip

The New Holland horse auction is located in Lancaster, PA.  A number of parent chaperons, counselors, and RBR's owner Mike Marino will attend with the campers.  Campers will eat breakfast at the legendary Shady Maple all you can eat buffet.  Shady Maple is HUGE, and the food is great.  For some campers, this is indeed their favorite part of the trip!  After breakfast it is only a 10 minute drive to the auction site where horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, pigs, and goats are sold.  During the auction, campers will be quizzed on their knowledge of horses and taught new things at the same time. It is a wonderful learning experience. Outside the auction building all sorts of horse and rider supplies (and trinkets) are for sale.  It is an all day unique excursion that campers will never forget!

           Overnight Horse Campout

The overnight campout is a once in a lifetime experience you will not soon forget. Camp will start on like every other day with the kids feeding and tacking horses. After getting ready, the children will go on a long horseback ride on the Perkioman Trail where they will eat lunch at the Central Perkioman Trail Head. After lunch, the children will ride back to the ranch to begin their campout! Campers will then untack horses and let them rest while they eat dinner and enjoy their last days of camp. After dinner (Parents invited), campers will tack up again and prepare for an NIGHT RIDE where the horses will have glow sticks and get to enjoy the trails in a whole new experience! After the ride, campers will return to the ranch and enjoy each other’s company by the fire, roasting marshmallows before bed. How many other opportunities will your child have to sleep over with a horse?

(All tents and sleeping pads provided, and a packing list will be distributed before the trip)
